I have had problems with my neck for a number of years but this time the pain was unbearable burning and painful in my neck and running down my arm into my hand which was a mix of numbness and tingling. I had no ease whatsoever, was in constant pain even with strong pain killers and anti inflammatories.

I made an appointment at Nuffield hospital in Leeds to see Mr Pal. From my pain and movement he said it was bulging discs pressing on nerves and some impingement on spinal cord he arranged that day for MRI and X-ray. He explained very well my options - one was a nerve block and last resort surgery.

I went away and contacted Mr Pal the next day to say I would opt for surgery as I have no quality of life and with this pain couldn’t work or drive or basically do anything. He said he would discuss my case with colleagues. Around a week later we had a very detailed conversation in what the surgery would involve. It would be anterior cervical discectomy and fusion where he would remove the problem discs and put in spacers and a titanium cage.

I went into hospital 2 weeks later for the surgery which was around 2 hours. Everything worked like clockwork and I saw various team members and Mr Pal within half an hour of arrival. Everyone was very professional and courteous I was very well cared for with only 1 night in hospital.

I have just been back for a follow up appointment with Mr Pal after 3 weeks and everything is good and I am out of pain. I will continue to take things easy and take advice he gave me.

I cannot thank Mr Pal enough- he is marvellous in his work as consultant /surgeon I am delighted to be out of pain and get back my life. This is all down to Mr Pal and his expertise. I would definitely recommend to anyone who requires this type of surgery. Thankyou again Mr Pal- truely amazing!
