I was referred to Mr Pal by the neurology dept in November 2023 and after viewing my MRI scans he diagnosed I had a severe spinal cord compression in my neck (c3-c5) from ossified ligaments and disc.
He explained how severe it was and how it was going to regress to the point of my having to be wheelchair bound if it wasn't operated on to halt the deterioration. He explained how difficult any operation would be and pointed out all risks in detail. These included needing walking aids afterwards, infection and paralysis.
I opted for the surgery as I didn't want to accept a certain decline without doing all I can to prevent it. Mr Pal was so detailed in his explanation of the surgery and risks that I felt confident rather than hopeful.
I had the surgery on February 7th 2024 and after a 61/2 hour surgery I felt remarkably well when I was woken from the anaesthetic, I was told that the operation had gone as well as anybody could have hoped.
It's now 3 weeks since the operation and I know it's going to be a slow process to improve my walking, movement and strength. I, and my family owe Mr Pal, Lizzie and the rest of the team so much and I cannot express my thanks enough. He's a wonderful man and an expert within his field and I would have no hesitation in recommending him.
