I’m a slightly overweight 65 year old man who played lots of sport when younger. I had a bad back injury playing football 35 years ago (only time I ever had to miss work off sick for a week). In recent years I was getting pain in the pelvis and buttocks when walking and this became intolerable during the autumn of last year. I couldn’t walk 400 yards without sitting down. Pain every morning when standing, pain even doing the washing up. I saw Mr Pal just before Christmas and had the requisite imaging done (x ray and MRI) and he diagnosed severe spinal stenosis at L3/L4. He suggested an operation to decompress the spine by cutting some of the herniated disc away along with the lamina bone. I had the op done at the Spire in Roundhay and was discharged after 24 hours. Within 2 weeks I was walking 3 miles at a time with absolutely no pain whatsoever. Wow, what a transformation.
I didn’t have medical insurance but it’s the best £15k I have ever spent. The only worry has been remembering that it can take three months for the surgery to heal internally, because I feel so good that I have to keep reminding myself to take things easy in the gym and in the garden!
